Okay, so before I dive into this, I should establish that I'm Assistant DAPA, the events coordinator for our FCPOA, the OPSEC manager and NWPL custodian for the whole command. I've excelled in all these things, put my name out there and gotten nothing but positive feedback and encouragement about how my department leads from the front and sets the example for the whole command. SO WHY THE FUCK DID ALL THE PO1s IN MY DEPARTMENT GET RANKED IN THE BOTTOM THIRD? MY CHIEF TOO! There's some serious serious politics at play here and I signed that I didn't intend to make a statement, but come on!
I'm also assistant PAO and I maintain the command Facebook page. Any one else have similar stories?
I feel massively backstabbed and I know the EPs went to the kiss ass firsts or the ones with the SCPOs in their pockets. All my career I've gotten MPs.
Nothing below a 3.8 and no, this isn't my first E6 eval. Sorry for the wall of text. ACE is almost identical to the Navy's eval/fitrep system and has the exact same flaws.
Not my first E-6 eval either, newly established command with a shit load of first classes competing against each other. I got a nice fat promotable. I do a lot around here, FCPOA secretary, command financial specialist, departmental career counselor, the fucking command photographer even though I hate dealing with it, and a bunch of other shit. Still got a nice fat promotable:-).
You know what reasoning I got at my debrief? I need to focus less on school and more on the command.I took 5 classes towards a masters degree this year. That was their reasoning. The CO told me I should put some of that paper writing skills towards the command's programs. Well fuck my life.I'm pissed about it, but at the same time they can eat a dick.
They don't like how outspoken I am about the stupid shit we do, and why we redo the same thing 4 or 5 times, I want to give this god damn space isolation list as an example but I might throw my computer out of my window. I feel like shit, a friend of mine received a promotable also and she does a ton of work for the command as the ONLY DC here putting repair party manuals, etc together.
A lot of politics.get used to it. I was so upset after the whole thing I went out to Wally World and bought a nice Star Wars Lego set for my son and I, I felt better. Sorry this isn't coherent.I'm also venting. I was planning on applying to OCS this year also, they kind of fucked me over on that one. Are you green side?
Do you have a warfare pin? HM is grossly overmanned, because it's grossly underrepresented at sea. In the Navy no less. If you want fast advancement there are a handful of difficult jobs I can think of right off hand that were 90% or better this cycle.
If no one explained that to you before you joined, that's a bummer. But most corpsman have incredibly easy and stress free jobs, if you don't include the large amount of BS that goes along with being in a building that never deploys and dealing with all the HS level drama. I have to disagree with your assessment of the HM rating. Yeah we may not be strongly represented at sea but that is because our mission is mainly done with marines and spent in the desert far away from any ocean. When we are back in one of those buildings we are making sure that the ones that do go out to sea are medically fit for their job or ensuring that there families are healthy and ready to see them when they return.
When we are out at sea and on the small boys we ensure every aspect of health and wellness is done for the sailors of that boat with a very limited amount of resources. Some corpsman may have it easy but the majority are either in the field with their marines or ensuring that the fleet is healthy enough to meet its mission. I am not denying that the shore commands do have there BS and can seem skate but even then young HM's are trained to be EMT's or some other speciality in which there decisions could determine whether someone lives or dies. I don't think many other rates can say that. Yeah we may not be strongly represented at sea but that is because our mission is mainly done with marines and spent in the desert far away from any ocean.
But the majority are either in the field with their marines or ensuring that the fleet is healthy enough to meet its mission. I don't think majority means what you think it means. Then young HM's are trained to be EMT's or some other speciality in which there decisions could determine whether someone lives or dies. This is a collateral duty we assign to our cooks in my community, not really a big deal. I'm not saying corpsman aren't important. I'm simply stating, you joined the navy in an essentially non-seagoing rate.
If you don't think that's going to negatively affect your advancement, you were probably lied to. Like I said in my first post to the HN having trouble making 3rd. Are you green side? Do you have a warfare pin? If not, why do you need to advance? If you're just a vital checking orderly at Portsmouth along with the other 500 HN's there, I don't see why you should be advanced before a devil doc. If you want to advance, get orders to something a little more strenuous than a base clinic.
Or use all that time you're spending not deploying and ace your exam. Again, there were two or three rates at my command this cycle that were 90+ percent, and even more above 80%. Chose your rate choose your fate. I can however tell you where all of the new PO3's and 2's I thought indoc to today won't be for the holidays; home with their families.
